Description :

Elegant vintage Galileo thermometer featuring multiple floating glass bulbs with numbered temperature tags suspended in a sealed glass cylinder. This decorative scientific instrument measures ambient temperature based on the density of the liquid-filled bulbs. A striking conversation piece for offices, libraries, classrooms, and home décor, combining science, art, and functionality in one display.

Approximate Measurements:

  • Height: approximately 10"–14"
  • Diameter: approximately 2"–4"
  • Floating bulbs: approximately 0.75"–1.25" diameter each
  • Base diameter: approximately 2.5"–4"

Condition: Good vintage condition. Glass appears clean and intact with normal age-related wear. Floating bulbs and temperature tags present. No cracks or chips observed in photos. Untested for calibration accuracy and sold as a decorative scientific instrument.

Historical Note / Fun Fact: The Galileo thermometer is named after Italian scientist Galileo Galilei (1564–1642). It works using the principle of liquid density, with the lowest floating tag indicating the approximate room temperature. Modern examples became especially popular as decorative desk and office accessories during the late 20th century.

Estimated Value: 20-45
