Description :
Elegant vintage Italian sterling silver necklace featuring a beautifully hand-carved oval mother-of-pearl shell cameo depicting the Madonna and Child. The pendant is set in a substantial sterling silver beaded frame with an ornate oversized bail and suspended from an Italian-made sterling silver rope chain. The necklace is marked 925 Italy on the clasp, confirming sterling silver Italian craftsmanship. The iridescent shell carving displays fine detail and a luminous natural finish, making this both a meaningful devotional piece and a timeless addition to any vintage jewelry collection. Combined weight is approximately 29 grams. APPROX. MEASUREMENTS CONDITION HISTORICAL NOTE EST. VALUE
Very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age. Sterling silver has developed a natural patina that may be polished if desired. No obvious chips or cracks noted to the carved shell cameo. Please review all photographs carefully.
Italy has long been recognized as one of the world's premier centers for shell cameo carving, particularly in Torre del Greco near Naples. Sterling silver devotional cameos depicting the Madonna and Child became especially popular during the mid-to-late 20th century, combining traditional religious imagery with skilled Italian jewelry craftsmanship.
