Historical Note

Manufactured by the Lane Furniture Company of Altavista, Virginia, this cedar chest reflects the popular Art Deco waterfall furniture movement of the 1930s and 1940s.

Waterfall furniture is distinguished by its gracefully rounded edges, dramatic wood veneers, and streamlined geometric styling. These designs became especially popular during the Depression era and continued into the postwar years.

Lane cedar chests were widely marketed as hope chests and treasured for their aromatic cedar interiors, designed to help protect stored textiles.

This example retains its original Lane branding, interior labels, and distinctive waterfall styling, making it a desirable piece of vintage American furniture.
