Historical Note

Silverplate flatware became widely popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as an affordable alternative to sterling silver.

American manufacturers such as Rogers Bros. and Community Plate produced numerous decorative patterns for everyday dining and formal entertaining. Specialty utensils, including pierced serving spoons and decorative sugar spoons, were common additions to traditional table settings.

Ornate metal switch plates and household hardware also reflect the popularity of decorative architectural accessories throughout the 20th century.
