Description :
Striking signed religious relief sculpture featuring a detailed crucifix scene with Christ on the cross beneath a dramatic lion face motif and surrounding figures in prayer or mourning. This highly textured mixed-media wall plaque is signed and dated “Bunningham ’88,” giving it a distinctive studio art presence with strong spiritual and symbolic imagery. The back includes an artist exhibition label noting participation with the Art Commission and appears to reference a titled work called “Family,” dated 1988. The plaque is constructed with a substantial dimensional design and reinforced backing, indicating it was intended as a serious gallery or exhibition piece rather than mass-produced décor. The layered symbolism—including the lion imagery above Christ—creates a visually powerful and emotional composition suitable for collectors of religious art, spiritual décor, ecclesiastical pieces, or late 20th century studio sculpture. A unique and conversation-worthy wall piece with handcrafted character and expressive detail throughout. Dimensions (Approximate) Condition Estimated Value Fun Fact

Religious relief sculptures like this became especially popular in studio and liturgical art during the 1970s–1980s, when many independent artists blended traditional Christian symbolism with modern expressive sculptural techniques and textured mixed-media materials.
