Description :
Vintage Italian Marquetry Coastal Scene Wall Art & Hand-Carved Wood Floral Plaque Description: Decorative vintage wall art grouping featuring two handcrafted wood pieces: a hand-carved floral plaque and a framed Italian marquetry inlay coastal landscape. The carved plaque displays a sculptural relief of blooming flowers and leaves set within an oval frame, showcasing traditional hand-carving techniques with smooth polished wood and dimensional detailing. The second piece is a marquetry inlay artwork depicting a coastal village scene with a small fishing boat, shoreline cottages, and distant cliffs. The image is created from carefully cut veneers of contrasting woods, a technique widely produced in Italy during the mid-20th century, particularly in regions known for decorative woodcraft such as Sorrento. Together these pieces represent two classic forms of European-inspired decorative woodworking popular in mid-century interiors. Measurements: Carved floral plaque approximately 17 inches tall; framed marquetry coastal scene approximately 9.5 inches tall. Condition: Good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. Wood surfaces retain a warm tone with minor surface wear typical of vintage decorative wall art. Historical Note: Italian marquetry wall art became widely exported during the 1950s–1970s, particularly from Sorrento workshops known for intricate wood veneer scenes depicting coastal landscapes, villages, and pastoral imagery. Hand-carved wood plaques like the floral example were also popular decorative pieces in mid-century homes, reflecting traditional woodworking craftsmanship. Estimated Value: $50-$90 for the pair.
