Description :

Vintage Koret Koretolope Suede Calf Evening Handbag

Classic vintage Koret “Koretolope” evening handbag crafted from black suede calf with a sculptural gold-tone metal frame and chain handle. The bag features Koret’s distinctive structured silhouette with a polished metal kiss-lock frame and decorative chain strap, giving it an elegant mid-century cocktail style. The interior is stamped “Koret – Koretolope – Made of Non-Crockable Suede Calf,” indicating the company’s treated suede designed to resist dye transfer and maintain durability. Inside, the bag is finished with a gold satin lining and multiple compartments, including a zippered pocket for small essentials.

Koret of California was a prominent American fashion accessories brand known for high-quality handbags during the mid-20th century. The Koretolope line specifically highlighted premium suede calf leather treated to prevent color bleeding (“non-crockable”), a desirable innovation for luxury handbags at the time. Bags with metal frames and short chain handles like this example were popular as cocktail or evening bags during the late 1950s through early 1960s, often paired with formal or special occasion attire.

Measurements: Approximately 8–10 inches wide, 6–7 inches tall excluding handle; chain handle drop approximately 4–5 inches.

Condition: Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age. Suede exterior shows light surface wear typical of vintage suede handbags, while the interior lining remains intact with functional compartments and zipper. Metal frame and chain retain original finish with minor age-related patina.

Historical Note: Koret of California, founded in the late 1920s, became one of the leading American handbag brands by the 1950s and 1960s. Their Koretolope suede handbags were marketed as luxury accessories and were widely sold in high-end department stores during the mid-century fashion era.
