Description :

Striking hand-decorated ceramic vessel featuring a richly textured blue-gray drip glaze surrounding inset ivory panels painted with hummingbirds, songbirds, flowering branches, and foliage. The tall cylindrical form has a substantial hand-crafted presence, with deeply modeled and irregular surface decoration continuing around the shoulder and reverse. An unusual studio-style decorative piece combining painterly botanical imagery with a dramatic, almost grotto-like textured glaze.

Approx. Measurements: 13–17" H x 5–7" W

Condition: Good pre-owned condition with expected variations, crazing, glaze irregularities, surface wear, and imperfections consistent with hand-crafted ceramic work. No obvious major structural damage visible in photos. Please review all images closely.

Historical Note: The vessel reflects the late-20th-century revival of Asian-inspired botanical and bird imagery in American studio and decorative ceramics. Hummingbirds and flowering branches were especially popular motifs, while the heavy running glaze and sculptural surface treatment give this example a distinctive artisan character. An accompanying estate label records a value of $250, suggesting it was regarded as a significant decorative ceramic within the collection; this label is not evidence of maker, age, or current market value.
