Description :

Large Vintage Hand-Blown Blue Glass Demijohn — Spanish or Italian, Turquoise / Aruba Blue

This striking large-format vintage glass demijohn features a classic bulbous form with a narrow neck, rendered in a rich turquoise to Aruba blue hue. Hand-blown with visible character and natural variation, the glass displays subtle waviness, thickness changes, and gentle surface imperfections consistent with traditional Mediterranean glassmaking techniques. The saturated blue tone and substantial scale make this piece an exceptional decorative statement for interiors, studios, or garden rooms.

Demijohns of this type were historically used for wine, oil, or water storage and are now highly sought after as sculptural decor. The form, color, and craftsmanship closely align with mid-20th-century Spanish and Italian examples. While the exact maker is unknown, the construction and material strongly indicate hand production rather than modern mold-made glass.

This piece is one of a kind, with no two examples ever exactly alike due to the hand-blown process.

Dimensions (Approximate):
Height: 22–26 in
Diameter: 14–18 in
Neck Opening: 1.5–2.5 in

Condition:
Very good vintage condition. Light surface wear consistent with age and use, including small bubbles, subtle inclusions, and minor irregularities inherent to hand-blown glass. No cracks or structural damage observed.

Material:
Hand-blown glass

Origin:
Likely Spain or Italy

Date:
Mid-20th century (circa 1950s–1970s)

Historical Note:
Large blue glass demijohns were commonly produced across Spain and Italy for agricultural and household use, particularly in wine-producing regions. Their bold color was achieved through mineral additives during the glassmaking process, and their oversized forms were designed for durability and repeated use. Today, these vessels are prized as architectural objects and sculptural decor pieces.
