Description :

Antique Wooden Jointer Plane — Early 1900s Style, Solid Hardwood Body

This antique wooden jointer plane features a long, rectangular hardwood body with traditional wedge-secured iron and upright rear handle, consistent with early 20th-century American woodworking tools. The plane displays a well-aged surface, deep patina, and hand-worn character developed through years of shop use.

Long jointer planes were designed to true edges and flatten boards over extended lengths, making them essential tools in furniture making and carpentry prior to the widespread adoption of metal-bodied planes. The proportions and construction of this example align closely with early American makers, including Providence Tool Co. and similar regional manufacturers, though no definitive maker mark has been identified.

This piece offers strong visual presence and historical appeal, whether displayed as a decorative object, included in a tool collection, or considered for light restoration.

Type: Wooden jointer / bench plane
Maker: Unknown (early American style; comparable to Providence Tool Co.)
Era: Early 1900s (circa)
Materials: Solid hardwood body, iron blade and hardware
Color: Aged brown wood with natural patina

Approximate Measurements:
Length: approx. 22–24"
Width: approx. 3–3.5"
Height (to top of handle): approx. 6–7"

Measurements are approximate and provided for reference.

Condition:
Antique condition consistent with age and use. Surface wear, scuffs, and handling marks present throughout. Wood shows age-related wear and patina. Blade and wedge are present; tool has not been tested for functionality. No major structural cracks observed. Suitable for display, collection, or restoration. Please review photos closely for condition details.

Historical Note:
Wooden jointer planes were foundational tools in early American woodworking shops, used extensively in cabinetmaking, joinery, and architectural work. Many were heavily used and eventually discarded, making surviving examples increasingly scarce. Long-bodied jointers are especially valued for their scale, craftsmanship, and connection to traditional hand-tool methods.

Value Context:
Comparable antique wooden jointer planes of similar size and age typically sell in the $250–500 range, depending on condition, maker attribution, and completeness.
