Description :

Vintage Art Glass Bowl & Natural Abalone Shell Dish — Murano or Murano-Style Glass Pair

This curated vintage lot features a vibrant art glass bowl paired with a natural abalone shell dish, creating a balanced composition of hand-worked glass and organic coastal material. Together, the pieces offer rich color, texture, and sculptural presence, making them well suited for decorative display, tabletop styling, or use as functional catchall pieces.

The glass bowl appears to be Murano or Murano-style, distinguished by its saturated amber-to-red coloration, controlled bubble inclusions, and softly ruffled rim. These characteristics are commonly associated with mid-century Italian art glass production and give the bowl a luminous, dimensional quality.

The accompanying abalone shell dish features natural iridescence with layered tones of silver, green, and violet. Its organic shape and textured exterior highlight the natural beauty of the shell, offering a striking contrast to the smooth, polished glass bowl.

Type:
Decorative bowl and shell dish (2-piece lot)

Maker:
Murano or Murano-style glass (art glass bowl); natural shell (abalone)

Era:
Mid-century modern, circa 1950s–1970s

Materials:
Art glass; natural abalone shell

Color:
Amber-to-red glass; iridescent silver-green shell

Approximate Measurements:
Glass bowl: approx. 6–7 inches diameter x 3–4 inches height
Abalone shell: approx. 6–7 inches length x 4–5 inches width

Measurements are approximate and provided for reference.

Condition:
Good vintage condition overall. The glass bowl shows light surface wear consistent with age and use, with no cracks observed. Bubble inclusions and subtle variations are inherent to hand-worked glass. The abalone shell shows natural irregularities, edge wear, and surface texture typical of organic shell material. Please review photos closely for condition details.

Historical Note:
Murano and Murano-style art glass became widely collected during the mid-20th century for expressive colorwork, controlled bubble techniques, and sculptural forms. Abalone shells have long been valued as decorative objects due to their natural iridescence and organic appeal, frequently used as accent pieces in mid-century interiors.

Value Context:
Comparable Murano or Murano-style art glass bowls typically sell in the $125–300 range depending on size, color, and attribution. Natural abalone shells commonly sell in the $40–90 range. As a curated decorative pairing, this lot carries an estimated combined value of approximately $175–350.
