Description :

Vintage Hand-Built Studio Pottery Basket Teapot with Lid, Signed & Dated

This vintage hand-built studio pottery teapot features a sculptural basket-inspired form with a raised arched handle, short spout, and fitted lid. The body is decorated with incised geometric and textural patterns, giving the surface a tactile, handcrafted quality that highlights the maker’s skill and intentional design.

Finished in a warm earthy tan glaze with natural variation and subtle pooling, this piece reflects mid-century studio pottery traditions that emphasized form, texture, and functional artistry. The basket motif and organic proportions make it both a practical teapot and a compelling decorative object.

The underside of the base is signed and dated by the maker, further supporting its origin as an individual studio work rather than a mass-produced piece.

Good vintage condition overall. Visible glaze crazing, surface variation, and minor firing imperfections consistent with handmade studio pottery. No major cracks observed. Lid seats properly. Signed and dated on the underside. Please review photos closely for full condition details.

Historical Note:
Studio pottery gained prominence in the mid-20th century as artists moved away from industrial ceramics toward expressive, handcrafted functional forms. Signed and dated examples are especially valued, as they reflect the individuality and personal authorship central to the studio pottery movement.

Value Context:
Comparable signed vintage studio pottery teapots typically sell in the $125–225 range, depending on form, glaze quality, condition, and clarity of signature.
