Dumbbell-form baby rattles were popular nursery gifts during the Victorian era and continued into the early 20th century. Many examples were produced in silverplate, pewter, or sterling silver and were often given as christening or baby gifts. Decorative hand bells remained popular household accessories throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods, while the remaining pieces reflect later Western Americana and mid-century decorative trends.
