Description :
Charming vintage French woven rattan picnic and wine basket, featuring a large rectangular lidded storage compartment accompanied by two cylindrical bottle holders and a tall integrated carrying handle. Beautiful natural honey-colored rattan construction with tightly woven sides and a woven hinged lid. Original underside label reads “Fabriqué aux Philippines” (Made in the Philippines), indicating it was produced in the Philippines, likely for the European/French export market. The design is particularly attractive for wine, picnic service, barware storage, or decorative display. Approx. Measurements Condition Historical Note Est. Value
Approx. 15–18 in. wide x 8–10 in. deep x 17–21 in. tall including handle
Good vintage pre-owned condition with attractive natural patina and light age-related wear. Woven rattan appears generally well preserved with minor variations and occasional small areas of wear consistent with age. Hinged lid opens properly. Please review photos for exact condition.
Rattan and wicker picnic accessories were particularly fashionable during the 1970s–1980s, combining European picnic traditions with skilled Southeast Asian basket weaving. The Philippines became an important producer and exporter of quality rattan furnishings and accessories during this period. A closely comparable circa-1980 rattan wine/picnic basket is currently offered on Chairish at approximately 198, making this an appealing example of the increasingly collectible bohemian and coastal décor of the era.
