Description :

Interesting Seattle-area vintage grouping featuring an original black silhouette profile portrait mounted on board and a 1975 Seattle Times calendar featuring a colorful view of the Seattle skyline and Space Needle.

The silhouette is signed in pencil on the reverse, appearing to read “Diane L. Ellertson” (spelling should be confirmed from the original). The portrait depicts a woman in profile with her hair arranged in a bun and appears to be individually hand-cut and/or hand-rendered rather than commercially printed.

The accompanying Seattle Times 1975 calendar displays a classic view of Seattle with the Space Needle prominently featured and remains filled with handwritten date markings from its original owner.

Approx. Measurements
Silhouette board approx. 10–14 in. x 8–11 in.
Calendar approx. 8–11 in. x 5–8 in.

Condition
Vintage condition with considerable age-related wear. Silhouette board shows discoloration, staining, edge wear, losses and remnants of previous mounting or adhesive. Calendar shows toning, handling wear and extensive handwritten markings throughout the dates. These imperfections contribute to the pieces' authentic vintage character.

Historical Note
Silhouette portraiture has a long history as an affordable form of personal portraiture, with artists often creating profiles quickly by cutting dark paper freehand. The 1975 Seattle Times calendar adds a particularly nice piece of local Seattle ephemera, capturing the city's skyline little more than a decade after the Space Needle debuted for the 1962 World's Fair. Together, the pieces have a wonderful 1970s Seattle time-capsule quality.
