Description :
Substantial antique oak gentleman’s wardrobe or chifferobe featuring richly figured quarter-sawn oak, paneled double doors and shaped feet. Interior combines a full-height hanging compartment with original-style metal garment hooks, a central dressing/storage section, pull-out trays, small divided cubbies and an upper drawer with brass-tone pulls. A hinged framed mirror swings outward from the center section. The unusually organized interior reflects the period’s purpose-built storage furniture, combining wardrobe, dressing and accessory storage in one handsome cabinet. Approx. Measurements: 48–54 in. W x 68–74 in. H x 20–24 in. D Condition: Antique condition with age-related surface wear, scratches, scuffs, finish variation and interior marks. Some interior lining/material appears later or replaced. Hardware and fittings show age and use. Doors, drawers, trays and mirror are present as photographed. Please review photos for condition and completeness. Historical Note: Chifferobes and gentleman’s wardrobes became especially popular during the early 20th century, when furniture makers combined the hanging space of a wardrobe with drawers, trays and specialized compartments for shirts, collars and personal accessories. Quarter-sawn oak was particularly favored during the Arts & Crafts and late Victorian-to-Edwardian eras for its durability and dramatic grain. Est. Value: 300–600
