Description :

Two antique hardcover books sold together as one lot: The Lady of the Lake: A Poem in Six Cantos by Sir Walter Scott, published by A. L. Burt Company, and Heart of the Sunset by Rex Beach, published by Harper & Brothers in 1915. The Lady of the Lake features red cloth boards, gilt spine lettering, a gilt book emblem, notes, appendix, and a biographical sketch by William M. Rossetti. Heart of the Sunset features its attractive original red illustrated cloth binding with horseback rider design. A nice decorative pair of early literary and adventure books.

Approx Measurements Range: 4-6 in wide x 6-8 in high x 0.75-1.5 in thick each

Condition: Fair antique condition with age and use wear throughout. Both books show rubbing, fading, frayed spine ends and corners, edge wear, age-toned pages, and some staining. Heart of the Sunset has interior hinge/paper damage and a previous owner's handwritten inscription. The Lady of the Lake has notable fraying and loss at the top of the spine. No dust jackets shown.

Historical Note: Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake, originally published in 1810, became one of his most influential narrative poems and helped popularize romantic images of the Scottish Highlands. Rex Beach's Heart of the Sunset was published in 1915 during the height of his popularity as an American adventure and Western novelist. Together, the books represent two distinct periods of popular historical and adventure literature.

Est Value: 25-50
