Description :
Handcrafted Dangzhen Pichu Tibetan Nixi Black Pottery Dragon Teapot Handcrafted black pottery teapot in the traditional Nixi village Tibetan form, created by Dangzhen Pichu, a known contemporary Nixi pottery artist. This form represents one of the most traditional teapot shapes used in Tibetan households, historically kept over a brazier to maintain heat throughout the day for serving tea. The vessel features elaborate sculptural detailing, including opposing dragon / kirin-style handles, incised decorative bands, pierced detailing near the rim, and inset stone or shell inlay arranged in floral motifs. The dragon figure reflects the Tibetan kirin, a form distinct from the Chinese qilin and traditionally associated with protection and auspicious symbolism. The surface displays natural firing effects consistent with traditional Nixi bonfire firing techniques, including tonal variation and metallic-like surface movement described in Nixi pottery as yaobian, a rare and chance firing effect. The interior is intentionally rough-hewn, consistent with traditional Nixi pottery practices and designed to absorb tea aromas over time, developing a natural patina. This piece is handcrafted and signed by the artist, and is best represented as a decorative and cultural object, rather than for modern daily tea service. Dimensions: Approx. 6.5" H x 6" W x 4.5" D Condition: Good condition. Surface wear and minor variations consistent with hand-crafted pottery and traditional firing methods. Inlay elements appear intact. No major cracks or repairs observed. Please review photos carefully for details. Notes: Nixi pottery originates from Yunnan Province and Tibetan cultural regions and is known for its black clay body, hand-carved decoration, and traditional firing techniques. Dangzhen Pichu is recognized for preserving traditional Nixi forms while producing individually signed works. Teapots of this style have historically been used to brew pu’er tea, often prepared with butter and salt in Tibetan tradition. Estimated Value: $350–$600
