Description :
Mid-Century Ndebele Woman Figural Sculpture, Austria, 1950s Stylized figural sculpture depicting a Ndebele woman, produced in Austria in the mid-20th century. The elongated, abstracted form features a dark patinated surface with brass or brass-toned accents at the neck, leg, base, and vessel balanced atop the head. The figure’s proportions and minimalist detailing reflect the European mid-century fascination with African motifs and modernist abstraction. The sculpture is consistent in style with works influenced by Austrian designers such as Karl Hagenauer, though no maker’s mark is visible and it is not attributed as a confirmed Hagenauer piece. The combination of sculptural form and decorative metal elements suggests studio or decorative art production typical of the period. Dimensions: Approx. 19" H x 4" W x 4" D Condition: Good vintage condition. Surface wear and patina consistent with age. Minor scuffs and finish variations present, particularly to the brass-toned elements. No major breaks or repairs observed. Please review photos carefully for condition details. Notes: During the 1950s, Austrian and European designers frequently drew inspiration from African art, producing stylized decorative sculptures that blended modernist aesthetics with so-called “exotic” motifs. Figures representing Ndebele women became especially recognizable for their elongated forms, jewelry accents, and sculptural elegance. Estimated Value: $700–$1,000
