Description :
Vintage Don Ellefson Articulated Wooden Figure Sculpture, 1980s Jointed Man Vintage articulated wooden figure sculpture by Chicago artist Don Ellefson, known for his distinctive jointed human forms often referred to as “Lumberjack” or “Robot Man” figures. This example is constructed from solid pine wood with exposed metal hardware at the joints and features a stylized carved face with inset blue eyes. The figure is fully poseable, with articulated joints at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles, allowing for a wide range of expressive positions. Ellefson’s work blends folk art sensibility with modernist form, emphasizing visible construction, honest materials, and playful anthropomorphic character. Don Ellefson produced these figures beginning in the 1980s, with variations ranging from tabletop-scale examples to larger display versions. His articulated wooden figures have become increasingly collectible, appreciated for their sculptural presence and mechanical simplicity. This is a decorative sculpture and not intended as a toy. Dimensions: Approx. 14" H x 6" W x 4" D (varies slightly depending on pose) Condition: Good vintage condition with light surface wear on wood (fixable with instructions), small nicks, and age-appropriate patina consistent with use and handling. Joints move freely and hold poses well. No major cracks, breaks, or repairs observed. Please review photos for full condition details. Notes: Ellefson’s articulated figures are often described as both whimsical and architectural, bridging folk art and Mid-Century–influenced design. Smaller examples such as this are particularly desirable for display on shelves, desks, or in studio settings. Estimated Value: $300–$600
