Description :

Rare 1960s Italian White Onyx Vide Poche Ashtray

Rare vintage Italian vide poche / ashtray carved from solid white onyx, dating to the 1960s. This sculptural piece features a substantial square form with a softly recessed bowl and natural banding throughout the stone, displaying warm honey, cream, and pale amber veining unique to onyx. The polished surfaces highlight the stone’s translucency and organic patterning, making each angle visually distinct.

Vide poches of this scale and material were popular in mid-century Italian interiors as luxury catchalls or statement ashtrays, often placed on desks, cocktail tables, or entry consoles. The minimalist yet architectural form reflects classic Italian modernist design, balancing utility with refined decorative presence.

This piece functions beautifully as a large ashtray, desk accessory, or sculptural object and pairs well with Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, and postmodern interiors.

Dimensions: Approx. 7.75" W x 7.75" D x 2" H

Condition: Very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age. No cracks or structural damage observed. Natural inclusions and color variations are inherent to onyx and enhance its character. Please review photos for full condition details.

Note: Large carved onyx vide poches from Italy are increasingly collectible, particularly examples with strong natural banding and substantial weight. This is a decorative object and not intended for food use.

Estimated Value: $300–$450
