Description :

French Majolica Wall Fish Vallauris, Circa 1970

This vintage ceramic wall fish is a French majolica piece produced in Vallauris, a renowned pottery center in southern France known for its expressive mid-century decorative ceramics. The sculptural fish form features bold striping and textured detailing, finished in rich earthy tones of ochre, brown, cream, and blue.

The fish is modeled in relief with exaggerated fins and a slightly abstracted silhouette, reflecting the playful yet refined aesthetic common to Vallauris ceramics of the late 1960s–1970s. The glossy glaze enhances the dimensional surface while highlighting the hand-worked character of the piece.

Wall fish became popular in European and coastal interiors during the mid-20th century, often used as statement wall décor in dining rooms, kitchens, and seaside homes. Vallauris examples are especially sought after for their quality, artistic glazing, and connection to the region’s ceramic revival.

This piece works well as a standalone wall accent or as part of a larger gallery-style arrangement.

Dimensions:
Approx. 13.25" W x 8.25" H x 1.25" D

Condition:
Good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age. Glaze shows minor variation and small imperfections typical of handmade majolica. No cracks or repairs observed. Please review photos for full condition details.

Notes:
• Vallauris was a major hub for French ceramic art in the mid-20th century, attracting many notable designers and studios.
• Majolica wall fish became a hallmark of coastal European décor during the 1960s–1970s.
• Larger wall-mounted fish forms such as this are increasingly collectible and visually impactful.

$300–$900
